Stop and think

Around election time you might hear people talking about how you should vote. This may be on the radio, on social media, in a newspaper or part of a chat with other people.

Some of this information may be important for you to think about. But some of the information may be wrong, either accidentally or, in some cases, on purpose.

It’s important to have a good think about the election information you have seen and heard. Sometimes the information you see or hear about the election process may be wrong or untrue. You need to think carefully to work out if you can trust the information to help make your decision.

It can be a good idea to ask someone you trust for help if you are not sure.

It’s important to ask yourself:

Where did the information come from?

When was it published?

Think:

  • Is it from a reliable source? A reliable source is one you can trust.
  • When was it published? Make sure the information is not too old otherwise it may be wrong.
  • Could it be a scam? Think about whether the information is trying to trick you.

The AEC is the trusted and reliable source about the electoral process.
