Can we count you in?

The AEC employs around 80,000 Australians to deliver a federal election. There are election roles available before, on or after election day.

People from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

As part of the nomination process candidates for federal election events are now able to complete a qualification checklist to demonstrate their eligibility to be elected to Parliament under Section 44 of the Constitution.

The AEC does not have the authority to conduct eligibility checks. Candidate eligibility is addressed in Section 44 of the Constitution. The Constitution is administered by the Attorney-General’s Department.

Electoral Act

The way in which federal electoral advertisements must be authorised has changed.

Senate ballot box

Since the 2016 federal election the AEC has conducted a number of Senate special counts following decisions by the High Court regarding the eligibility of candidates.

Statements of results for special Senate counts are updated as available.
