Name Derivation:
Named in honour of Joseph Gellibrand, 1786–1836. Gellibrand was a lawyer and explorer.

The Division of Gellibrand consists of:
Hobsons Bay City Council,
part of the Maribyrnong City Council, and
part of Wyndham City Council.
