Name Derivation:

Named in honour of Sir Robert George Wyndham Herbert, 1831–1905, the first Premier of Queensland (1859–66).

The Division of Herbert consists of:

• Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council,
• part of Hinchinbrook Shire Council, and
• part of the Townsville City Council.
