Ballot of Members of the Manufacturing Division of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union

Introduction

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has ordered that the AEC conduct a vote by secret ballot (the Ballot), to decide whether, in relation to the amalgamated organisation known as the Construction, Forestry and Maritime, Employees Union (CFMEU), the Manufacturing Division, should withdraw from the CFMEU.

This webpage provides voters with information about the ballot including key dates, an outline of the proposed withdrawal and links to the rules of the proposed Timber, Furnishing and Textiles Union and the altered rules for the CFMEU if the withdrawal of the Manufacturing Division takes effect.

FAQs

The Manufacturing Division of the CFMEU applied to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for a ballot to be held to decide whether the Manufacturing Division of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) should withdraw from the CFMEU. The FWC has ordered that the AEC conduct a vote by secret ballot, to decide whether, in relation to the amalgamated organisation (ie the CFMEU), the Manufacturing Division, should withdraw from the CFMEU.

Voters will be asked one question:

  • Do you approve the proposed withdrawal of the Manufacturing Division from the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union and its registration as a separate organisation under the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 (Cth)?

The persons to be balloted are persons who are members of the Manufacturing Division on the roll close date. Please refer to ‘Key Dates’ for the roll close date.

If you want to know if you are on the roll of voters, please call the AEC on 02 9375 6366 or 03 9285 7111, referencing the Ballot Order D2024/10, and ask if you are on the roll of voters for this ballot.

If you are not on the roll, the AEC may ask you to call the CFMEU to find out why not.

Please find the list of polling dates and times for the selected worksites where the AEC will conduct attendance voting.  If your worksite is not listed you will receive a postal pack in the mail to vote in this ballot.

Please note only employees of the worksite that the AEC is attending can vote in-person.

The applicant requested that this ballot be conducted by attendance at selected worksites, and postal voting for the remaining members.

If you do not work at any of the polling sites listed here, a postal vote pack will be mailed to your postal address 17 February 2025.

If you have not received your postal vote pack by 17 March 2025, please complete the following replacement application and send it to IEBevents@aec.gov.au

Anyone who is listed on the roll of voters for one of the worksites where the AEC will conduct attendance voting and was not able to vote during the nominated polling times for their worksite will be sent a postal pack after the attendance polling is complete.

The ballot will close strictly at 5:00pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on 14 April 2025 and only ballot papers received by the AEC by that time will be counted.

DON’T DELAY: Try to return your postal vote as soon as you can after receiving it.

The CFMEU did not file a ‘No case’ with the FWC, so the AEC cannot provide a link.
