Named after the town of Kalgoorlie where gold was discovered in 1893.

Area and Location Description:

Kalgoorlie is a rural electorate which covers an area of approximately 2 295 354 sq km of Western Australia. The main towns are Broome, Boulder, Carnarvon, Coolgardie, Dampier, Derby, Esperance, Exmouth, Halls Creek, Kalbarri, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Merredin, Newman, Norseman, Northampton, Port Hedland, Wiluna and Wyndham.

Mainly arid land which is rich in mineral and ore deposits. Cattle and sheep are also grazed in some areas, fishing, tropical fruits and vegetables are also important industries.
