Australians not enrolled to vote have until 8pm today to enrol or they will miss out on their vote in the 2010 federal election.
"Anyone not yet enrolled must urgently complete and sign an enrolment form today and make sure the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) receives it before the 8pm deadline," the Electoral Commissioner, Ed Killesteyn said.
People can access an enrolment form at www.aec.gov.au/enrol, or get one at any Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), Australia Post, Centrelink or Medicare office.
Mr Killesteyn said it is now too late to post back an enrolment form but you can still take it to any AEC office between the hours of 8:30am and 8pm today. Alternatively you can fax it or email your (signed and scanned) form but the AEC must receive it before the 8pm deadline today.
The location and contact details of AEC offices, and further information on how to return enrolment forms is available online, or by calling 13 23 26.
"Anyone who is not sure they're enrolled to vote should check immediately at www.aec.gov.au/check or by calling 13 23 26," Mr Killesteyn said.
Australians who are already on the electoral roll but who have moved address, have a little longer until 8pm on Thursday, July 22 to update their details by completing an enrolment form. You must be enrolled for your current address to ensure your vote in the federal election.
It is compulsory for all Australian citizens aged 18 years and over to enrol and vote in the 2010 federal election on Saturday August 21.
