The Australian Electoral Commission has announced the count for the election of six Senators for Queensland was completed today.
The successful candidates for the six Senate vacancies for Queensland are (in order of their election):
The State Manager for Queensland, Anne Bright, said the Senate count had involved the data entry of some 80,500 votes into a computerised system which involved some 26,386,000 keystrokes, and today an automated process was used to distribute preferences and determine the six elected candidates.
“As with all aspects of the count, the automated distribution of preferences undertaken today was open to scrutineers appointed by the candidates,” Ms Bright said.
“Some 97 per cent of voters cast their ballot above-the-line on the Senate ballot paper while three per cent voted below the line,” she said.
The successful candidates will be formally declared elected at 3:30pm in Carribean Room, Level 1, Christies Corporate Conference Centre, 320 Adelaide Street, Brisbane. All candidates, members of the media and the public are welcome to attend.
All 2013 federal election results are available in the Virtual Tally Room.
