Election jobs on offer for regional Queensland

Updated: 26 November 2024

The AEC is putting out a call across regional Queensland for paid workers to help deliver Australia’s next federal election – due by May of 2025.

There has been strong interest in the AEC’s recruitment drive for the next election, but more people are needed across the state.

In particular, the AEC is encouraging people in the following electorates to register their interest:

  • Bowman – Stradbroke, Macleay, Coochiemudlo and Russell Islands
  • Flynn – including Emerald, Taroom, Tieri, Miram Vale, Rockhampton, Moura, Stanwell, Woorabinda, Miriam Vale, Springsure and Gladstone
  • Capricornia - including Clermont, Collinsville, Middlemount, Moranbah, Dysart and Marian
  • Hinkler & Wide Bay – including Bundaberg, Wide Bay, Murgon, Kilkivan, Cherbourg and Childers
  • Maranoa - including Alpha, Texas, Alpha, Blackall, Longreach, Birdsville, Winton, Cunnamulla, Goondiwindi, Quilpie and Tambo
  • Leichhardt – including the Weipa and Cape York communities
  • Kennedy – Mt Isa, Bouila, Richmond, Charters Towers, Mareeba, Ingham, Cloncurry, Innisfail, Normanton, Georgetown, Mornington Island and Karumba
  • Dawson – including Mackay, Bowen, Proserpine, Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island.

At the 2022 federal election, COVID conditions caused staff shortages that nearly prevented 76 regional polling places from opening on election day, including in Capricornia, Flynn, Kennedy and Leichhardt. Today’s regional employment reminder is aimed at preventing this from occurring again.

Election jobs come in a variety of types, from working on election day through to engagement for up to 7 weeks of a full election campaign period.

The AEC is also reminding people who may have worked at the 2023 referendum or a previous federal election that their expression of interest will not carry over for the next federal election – they need to visit the AEC’s website and register for temporary employment.

You can register your interest online by visiting the AEC’s website.
