Enrol now for the 2024 Cook by-election

Updated: 18 March 2024

The Australian Electoral Commission is calling on all Cook residents to check their enrolment details ahead of the enrolment deadline.

AEC State Manager for NSW Rebecca Main said it’s imperative Cook residents who have recently turned 18 or are new to the area ensure they’re enrolled correctly before 8pm Monday 18 March.

“If you’re not enrolled by the deadline, you won’t be able to vote” Ms Main said.

The electorate of Cook runs from Kurnell and Cronulla in the east to Sylvania and Gymea Bay in the west and from Kyle Bay, Monterey and Botany Bay in the north to Dents Creek and Hacking River in the south.

“If you live in the federal division of Cook you can enrol, or update or check your enrolment details online, at aec.gov.au.”

The writ for the by-election has been issued and voting day will be Saturday 13 April 2024.

Postal voting applications open

“If Cook residents know they won’t be able to make it to a polling place on Saturday 13 April, it’s important to start planning for that now,” Ms Main said.

“Early voting centres will be open from Tuesday 2 April, but for those people who can’t make it in-person at all, postal voting applications are now available from the AEC’s website.”

“If voters intend to vote by post, they should apply for a postal vote now,” said Ms Main.

“For people who need a postal vote, it’s important to apply as soon as possible and to apply directly through the AEC website.”

Voters can apply for a postal vote now on the AEC website, until 6pm Wednesday 10 April 2024.
