2022-23 annual financial disclosure returns to be published on Thursday 1 February 2024

Updated: 25 January 2024

The 2022-23 annual financial disclosure returns will be available for public inspection after 9am (AEDT) on Thursday 1 February 2024.

This will include returns from:

  • political parties
  • significant third parties
  • associated entities
  • members of the House of Representatives
  • Senators
  • donors, and
  • third parties that incur electoral expenditure.

The annual returns will be available on the AEC’s Transparency Register at https://transparency.aec.gov.au/.

What is the register and how does it work?

The Transparency Register is a database of financial disclosure information, allowing users to apply multiple filters to refine their search. It also includes images of the original returns and a data-export function to enable users to undertake additional analysis of the data outside the Register.

If you are not familiar with the Transparency Register you can view the site ahead of time. Prior to 1 February, the system will only have information available for previous financial years.

Any questions on the navigation of the Transparency Register should be directed to the AEC’s funding and disclosure helpdesk on 02 6271 4552.

Editor's notes:

  • Part VIIIA of the Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Act 1984 governs the lodgement and publication of referendum disclosure returns. The disclosure returns relating to the 2023 Referendum, held on 14 October 2023, will be published on the Transparency Register on Monday, 1 April 2024.
  • The disclosure scheme requires registered political parties, significant third parties, associated entities, members of the House of Representatives, Senators, donors and third parties that have incurred electoral expenditure to lodge annual financial disclosure returns with the AEC.
  • The disclosure threshold for the 2022–23 financial year returns was $15,200. The threshold is indexed on 1 July each year.
  • The disclosure period covers 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023. Any transactions made after 30 June 2023 should be disclosed in the 2023–24 annual disclosure return.
