2024 Dunkley by-election: Saturday 2 March

Updated: 19 January 2024

The Speaker of the House of Representatives has announced that a by-election for the federal electoral division of Dunkley (VIC) will be held on Saturday 2 March 2024.

Dunkley is an outer metropolitan seat. It consists of all of the Frankston City Council, and Mount Eliza - part of the Mornington Peninsula Shire. Dunkley covers an area of approximately 153 sq km and is located approximately 40 km south-east of Melbourne's CBD.

The AEC’s Victorian State Manager, Nye Coffey said the by-election follows the recent passing of the former member for Dunkley who was elected at the 2019 federal election.

“A by-election occurs where there is a vacancy in the House of Representatives and it means that the local community for Dunkley will be able to continue to have federal representation,” Mr Coffey said.

“If you live in the division of Dunkley, have recently moved to the area or are a local resident who has turned 18, then you should check your enrolment details at aec.gov.au now.

Postal voting is available for the by-election and applications are now available on the AEC website here.

The AEC is recruiting people to work for us at the Dunkley by-election.

Most positions are for a single day but some stretch over a few weeks. The AEC will primarily be looking for people to be polling officials – to mark people off the electoral roll, be queue controllers, guard ballot boxes, and issue and count votes.
