Enrol now for the Aston federal by-election

Updated: 21 February 2023

The Speaker of the House of Representatives has announced that a by-election for the federal electoral division of Aston (VIC) will be held on Saturday 1 April 2023.

The AEC’s Victorian State Manager, Nye Coffey said the by-election follows the recent resignation of the former member for Aston who was elected at the 2022 federal election.

“A by-election occurs when there is a vacancy in the House of Representatives and it means that the local community for Aston will be able to continue to have federal representation,” Mr Coffey said.

“If you live in the division of Aston, have recently moved into the Knox council area or are a local resident who has turned 18 then you should check your enrolment details as soon as possible.”

“Aston residents need to ensure that their enrolment is up to date by 8pm on Monday 6 March to be able to vote in the by-election.”

Enrolling and voting in a federal by-election is compulsory, just as it is for a full federal election.

You can enrol or update your enrolment details online. If you are unsure, you can check your enrolment online or call 13 23 26.

People can also apply for a postal vote, or register their interest in working as a polling official by going to aec.gov.au.

  • Further information about the by-election is available on the AEC website
