Elections for office


Limited availability: The AEC accepts only a small number of fee-for-service elections each year. Submission of a request does not guarantee acceptance.

Legislative authority

The AEC’s ability to conduct fee-for-service elections is derived from the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918, including sections 7A and 7B, which outline the functions of the Electoral Commissioner. These functions include the provision of electoral services and the conduct of ballots for external bodies where authorised.

Eligibility

The AEC may conduct elections where there is legislative authority or alignment with its statutory functions.
