Mobile voting

If an AEC mobile voting team is not visiting your location, we encourage you to consider other voting options for the federal election.

You can vote early by going to a nearby early voting centre. Early voting starts on Tuesday 22 April. If you are blind or have low vision, you can vote via telephone.

If you are eligible, you can apply for a postal vote. If you intend to vote via post, it’s important to apply as soon as possible to ensure you receive your ballot papers in time.

The AEC offers mobile voting (also referred to as mobile polling) to certain locations to provide an in-person voting service to people who experience barriers to electoral participation.

Mobile voting will begin progressively from Monday 21 April 2025.

AEC mobile voting teams will visit some residential aged care homes across Australia. Mobile polling teams will deliver voting services in communal areas or, where required for high needs residents, as a bedside service.

Mobile polling teams will issue election ballot papers and then collect them to be counted. You can ask AEC staff for assistance casting your vote if needed.

More information for people living in residential aged care is available including how to support loved ones in aged care on enrolment, voting and how the AEC supports people with dementia. Information for people who need assistance for disability or mobility restrictions is also available.

AEC mobile voting teams will be visiting a number of public and private hospitals during the federal election. If you are admitted to a hospital during the early voting period, please get in contact with hospital staff to find out more information.

AEC mobile voting teams will not be visiting all hospitals so we encourage you to check mobile voting dates and times further down on this page to see if the hospital you have been admitted to will be visited by AEC staff. The AEC encourages you consider other voting options if needed.

When visiting hospitals, the AEC will minimise the impact on hospital services and infection prevention and control as much as possible with health and safety considerations remaining paramount.

Further information on voting in hospital is available.

AEC mobile voting teams will be visiting some mental health services, such as mental health hospitals and mental health inpatient units, for those who are experiencing mental ill-health and require residential treatment.

Voting may be provided in a communal area or, where required, as a bedside service.

Mobile voting teams will visit some residential locations for people living with disability. The AEC is committed to supporting people with a disability to participate in federal elections, further information and resources are available.

More information for people with disability or mobility restrictions.

AEC mobile voting staff will be visiting some homelessness services around Australia to assist people to cast their vote. People who are experiencing homelessness can also vote in-person at polling places on election day  or during the early voting period. Further information for people with no fixed address is available.

The AEC will be visiting some correctional facilities including prisons, work camps and remand centres to deliver mobile voting services. Prisoners who are serving a full-time sentence of less than three years, are eligible to vote. Under electoral legislation, a prisoner who is serving a full-time sentence of more than three years is not eligible to vote in a federal election.

Further information on enrolment for those in prison is available as well as a factsheet about enrolling and voting from prison.

AEC mobile voting teams will be visiting some non-remote discrete Indigenous communities, and some Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). Mobile voting services are offered with approval from communities and ACCHO management. We encourage you to check mobile voting dates and times to find out which ACCHOs the AEC will be visiting. Further information on the non-remote discrete Indigenous communities the AEC will be visiting will be published on the AEC notices page.

Mobile voting locations
