Electoral Commission directs commencement of redistribution by way of Notice in the Commonwealth Government Notices Gazette. As soon as practicable
Electoral Commissioner determines current enrolment quota Electoral Commission appoints Redistribution Committee As soon as practicable after commencement of redistribution
Production and checking of enrolment projections May take 6 to 10 weeks depending on the state or territory being redistributed
The Electoral Commissioner invites written suggestions to the redistribution from the public

As soon as practicable but notice must be published on a Wednesday in the Gazette

Notices are also published in selected newspapers, generally on the following Saturday

Closing date for written suggestions 6pm on the 5th Friday after Gazette notice published
Suggestions available for public to make written comments on suggestions From 5th Monday after Gazette notice published
Closing date for written comments on suggestions 6pm on 7th Friday after Gazette notice published
Redistribution Committee considers suggestions and comments on suggestions and develops a set of boundary proposals. No time specified but the time elapsed will depend on the number of meetings required and the state or territory being redistributed
Production of Redistribution Committee’s report and maps showing proposed names and boundaries May take 8 to 10 weeks depending on the state or territory being redistributed
Redistribution Committee publishes and exhibits maps showing proposed boundaries and names and reasons for proposal. Public invited to make written objections to the proposed redistribution

Published in the Gazette on a Friday

Augmented Electoral Commission considers objections and comments on objections. As part of these considerations, a public inquiry into objections may be held Must be completed within 60 days of closing date for written comments on objections
Announcement of augmented Electoral Commission’s proposed redistribution As soon as practicable after the augmented Electoral Commission has finished its consideration of objections
Final determination of names and boundaries of electoral divisions by notice published in the Gazette As soon as practicable
Augmented Electoral Commission’s report tabled in Parliament Within five sitting days of Minister’s receipt of report
