Name Derivation:

Named after Hamilton Hume (1797–1873), an early explorer in the area.

Area and Location Description:

It covers an area of approximately 25 948 sq km from Warragamba in the north to Yass in the south and from Bowral in the east to Young in the west.

The main towns include Appin, Berrima, Boorowa, Bowral, Crookwell, Harden/Murrumburrah, Mittagong, Picton, Warragamba, Yass, Young and the City of Goulburn.

Products/Industries of the area:

The main industry in the north of the division is coal mining, with mines operating at Tahmoor, Wilton, Appin and along the Burragorang Valley. The division also produces fat lambs, fruit, vegetables, timber and textiles and is a centre for fine wool, dairying, horse-breeding/agistment and tourism.
